Khan-i Jahan, Qiwam ul-Mulk Malik Maqbul

Khan-i Jahan, Qiwam ul-Mulk Malik Maqbul
(?-1370)
Khan-i Jahan Maqbul was a Hindu convert from Telingana who was brought to Delhi in 1322 as a prisoner. Under Muhammad bin Tughlaq (1325-1351), he was entitled Qiwam ul-Mulk and ap-pointed to govern Multan in 1327. In 1344, he briefly served in Telingana and then became a deputy governor of Gujarat, where he played a prominent role in the suppression of the amiran-i sada. Firuz Shah Tughlaq (1351-1388) raised him to the position of prin-cipal minister (wazir) in the central government, indicated by the new title Khan-i Jahan. Much of the peace and prosperity of Firuz's early reign may be ascribed to Maqbul's sage advice to the sultan and his efficient handling of finances. After his death in 1370, the office and title were transferred to his son.
